The Providence Center Receives $118,000 Grant from Champlin
Funding supports new boilers for The Providence Center’s main clinical building
January 12, 2012 (Providence, RI)—The Providence Center received a $118,000 grant from The Champlin Foundations to help pay for the installation of four new boilers at the Center’s 530 North Main Street location. The Providence Center’s adult services, including an integrated primary-behavioral health clinic, employment and education services, and emergency and outpatient services for mental health and substance abuse treatment, all operate out of the North Main Street location. Appointments at 530 North Main Street average 150,000 per year, with more than 11,000 people served annually.
“We are very thankful for Champlin’s support,” said Dale K. Klatzker, president/CEO of The Providence Center. “The grant allows us to continue to provide comprehensive services to our state’s most vulnerable citizens, while also heating our building in a more energy efficient and environmentally friendly manner.”
According to analysis done for The Providence Center, the installation of the new gas-fired boilers will reduce the organization's annual operating costs associated with the heating the building by 60 per cent or $37,000 per year. In addition, it will reduce the amount of carbon emitted by 212,376 pounds per year, which is the equivalent of removing 21 cars from the road.
The Providence Center is at the forefront of innovative approaches to behavioral health care designed to meet the changing needs of the more than 11,000 people served each year.
